HCM CITY — The central province of Quang Nam will focus on expanding export markets for its key products including seafood, textile and garment and leather shoe in 2011, the provincial Department of Industry and Trade said at a meeting last Friday.
Director Nguyen Hong Van said the department would collaborate with other agencies to intensify trade promotion programmes and support local exporters maintain their positions in the traditional markets and seek new markets as well.
Due attention will be paid to improving the quality and effectiveness of trade promotion programmes, he said.
The department will also help businesses overcome difficulties in production and export by strengthening the free flow of market information, as well as the forecasting of supply-demand factors and market prices.
Efforts will be made to generate awareness of WTO commitments, preferential import-export policies and trade technical barriers so that businesses can minimise risks in their export operations.
Van said the department would strengthen its co-ordination with the Ministry of Industry and Trade as well as commercial attaches in Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad to increase trading opportunities.
The province will also organise more visits by business delegations to other provinces and to foreign countries to survey and assess overseas markets. It will also encourage local businesses to strengthen participation in national and international exhibitions.
While mapping out strategies to develop its strengths in core industries, the province would also focus on research and development of supporting industries to sharpen the local businesses' competition, Van said.
The province also plans to develop a network of markets, supermarkets and trade centres on a large scale, as part of efforts to modernise its infrastructure.
The province's industrial production value reached VND10.123 trillion (US$506.15 million) in 2010, an increase of 26.5 per cent compared to 2009. Export turnover was about $260 million, an increase of 10 per cent over the annual target.
It plans to increase industrial production value and export turnover next year to VND12.555 trillion ($627.75 million) and $312 million respectively. Source: vnagency.com.vn
