Bookstore chain opens new outlet in Soc Trang

SOC TRANG — The HCM City Book Distribution Company (FAHASA) opened a new bookstore at the Soc Trang Co-opmart Supermarket in southern Soc Trang Province yesterday.
The 500-square-metre bookstore displays 20,000 titles of Vietnamese books by the two publishing houses, Tre and Giao Duc, and 10,000 titles of foreign books from publishers McGraw-Hill and Oxford. The store also offers more than 10,000 stationery products and 1,000 titles of CDs, VCDs and DVDs, featuring films, music and reference materials.
Asia Commercial Bank loans $75m to Hoa Phat
HCM CITY — The Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) has arranged a syndicated loan of VND1.5 trillion (US$75 million) for the Hoa Phat Group which mainly makes construction steel and cement.
Other contributors to the loan are Vietbank and Dai A Bank, who will provide VND300 billion each, with ACB covering the remaining VND900 billion. The seven-year loan will be used to develop the Hoa Phat iron and steel production complex in northern Hai Duong Province.
Maritime Bank becomes top 10 enterprise
HA NOI — Maritime Bank was named among the top 10 of 110 enterprises recognised by the 2010 Viet Nam Top Trade Services Awards 2010 presented by the Ministry of Industry and Trade last Saturday, marking the third time Maritime Bank has been honoured for outstanding achievement this year.
Vietnam Air offers Can Tho-Taiwan flights
CAN THO — Vietnam Airlines will offer 13 direct flights linking Can Tho with Taipei, Gaoxiong, and Taizhong in Taiwan. The first Can Tho-Taipei flight took off on Monday and others will be offered between now and February.
Work begins on $20m hydroelectric plant
HA GIANG — The Song Da 5 Joint Stock Co began construction on Monday of a hydroelectric facility in Then Phang Commune, Xin Man District, in the northern mountain province of Ha Giang. The VND400 billion ($20 million) plant has a designed capacity of 16MW and is expected to generate power by 2012, providing over 70 million Kw/h of electricity yearly.
