Thai firms to invest in Viet Nam factories

HA NOI – Charoen Pokphand Group, the biggest business conglomerate in Thailand, plans to expand its business in Viet Nam and will invest US$150-200 million in building new factories in the next five years.
Sooksunt Jiumjaiswanglerg, deputy managing director in charge of agricultural business in Viet Nam, said the group would build four factories to manufacture livestock and fish feed.
Thailand's largest cement company, Siam Cement Public Co Ltd, is also seeking to invest $3.3 billion in ASEAN countries, including Viet Nam. It is currently building a new petro-chemical complex in Viet Nam.
Executives briefed on e-commerce trends
HCM CITY — A workshop for CEOs on E-commerce, held on Tuesday in HCM City, updated chief executive officers (CEOs) on the latest global e-commerce trends and business potentials in the Vietnamese market.
The workshop offered visions on designing e-commerce business plans, its application, solutions and export opportunities through alibaba.com, one of the global leading e-commerce website with 14.9 million members worldwide.
Chamber airs draft business report
HA NOI —The Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) on Tuesday held a conference to gather opinions for the Viet Nam Business Annual Report 2010, which will be published at the beginning of next year.
The report will focus on the restructuring process of State-owned enterprises. It also includes assessments of business environment, business capability after the global economic crisis, and an analysis on Vietnamese firms' performance.
At the workshop, participants also suggested the report should provide deeper analysis on the effectiveness of foreign-invested enterprises.
Workshop to review start-up policies
HCM CITY — A workshop on reviewing business start-up policies for Vietnamese enterprises in accordance with WTO regulations will kick off tomorrow in HCM City.
The conference is aimed to provide domestic enterprises with useful information about the preferential policies in the context of the country's implementation of its WTO commitments.
More than 150 companies and members of major business associations including Eurocham, Amcham and Auscham will attend the conference.
