Viet Nam holds its first forestry festival

HA NOI — Viet Nam's first forestry festival will be held in March next year, opening big opportunities to boost trade.
The festival will open in Quy Nhon City in the southern province of Binh Dinh, one of the nation's largest timbered areas.
The province has 400,000ha of forests that annually supply 300,000cu.m of timber for local industry.
The three-day festival, from March 26, will include a timber trade fair featuring 500 displays by 200 local and international enterprises and two conferences on forestry.
The organisers include the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Viet Nam Timber and Forestry Association.
In November, timber exports reached US$310 million, a year-on-year increase of 29.56 per cent.
Exports for the year to date reached $3.037 billion. Major markets were the United States, the European Union, Japan, China, Canada and Korea.
Late last week, the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry opened the first e-market for agricultural, forestry and aquatic produce.
The entrepreneurial website www.agromart.com.vn, which hosts about 150 businesses and showcases 340 products, is expected to lower costs and increase efficiency.
