HA NOI - The Viet Nam Food Association yesterday forecast that the country would export between 450,000 and 500,000 tonnes of rice this month, pushing the total export volume for the whole year to 6.7-6.75 million tonnes.
According to the association, Viet Nam shipped 6.26 million tonnes of rice worth US$2.67 billion in the first 11 months of the year.
These figures marked an increase of 9.94 per cent in volume and 15.63 per cent in value over the same period last year, the association said, noting that the average export price during that time was about $426 per tonne, up $21 year-on-year.
At the moment, there was a high demand for Vietnamese rice in countries such as Indonesia, Iran, Bangladesh, the Philippines and African nations, said Truong Thanh Phong, chairman of the association.
Phong added that the country's rice exports in 2011 would depend on the global stockpiled volume, the price of oil and other countries' rice export policies.Source: vnagency.com.vn
