HCM CITY— Fourteen chief security officers (CSO) in the ASEAN region have been chosen as the most outstanding CSOs this year out of a pool of 63 candidates from eight countries.
The awards were announced at the CSO ASEAN Conference and Awards 2010 meeting held in HCM City last Friday.
Of the total, nine winners were from Viet Nam, two from Singapore, one from Malaysia, one from Thailand and the last from Cambodia.
The CSO makes policy and implements information security solutions to enhance stable communications between enterprises.
The event was organised by the HCM City's Information and Communications Department and the Viet Nam Computer Emergency Response Team (VNCERT) in co-operation with the International Data Group (IDG).
First organised in 2009, the CSO Awards has played a significant role in advancing the position of CSOs. In the past, the job was not well known in Viet Nam.
For this year, the organising board decided to expand the scale and influence of the awards to the ASEAN region, giving CSOs in 10 ASEAN countries the opportunity to be nominated for the CSO Awards 2010.
Viet Nam is limited to fewer than 10 awards, and regional countries to no more than nine.
"This award gives CSOs a great opportunity to exchange experiences and learn lessons from partners in the region," said Le Thanh Tam, managing director of the IDG Viet Nam & Indochina.
The jury, with 12 veterans in the security information industry and a board of advisors of prestigious experts from regional and international countries, selected the most outstanding CSOs from eight ASEAN countries, including strong ICT nations like Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia.
The evaluation criteria emphasised the leadership and influence of CSOs in the community, apart from their technical knowledge. It especially appreciated those CSOs who act as pioneers and offer state-of-the-art solutions in the information security field.
The conference, themed "CSO–Smart Management, Instant Response", focused on effective strategic plans and information security management, improvement of awareness of information security in the business community, and a secure network security environment.Source: vnagency.com.vn
