HA NOI — Viet Nam is a great potential market and Italian enterprises are attempting to further enhance their presence here, said Italian Chamber of Commerce in Viet Nam (Icham) Secretary Massimiliano Guelfo during the opening ceremony of the Icham representative office in Ha Noi yesterday .
Guelfo said despite Italian businesses having come to Viet Nam later than others, he hoped they would succeed in fostering trade and investment activities in Viet Nam.
Icham chairman Tomaso Andreatta said recent years had witnessed rapid strengthening of diplomatic and political relations between Viet Nam and Italy, as well as growing trade ties.
"We are already advising several Italian companies that are planning to invest in Viet Nam for the first time," he said.
In the time ahead, Icham would continue to promote Viet Nam's trade and investment opportunities to Italian firms and vice versa in an attempt to further foster bilateral relations, Guelfo said.
As of October, Italian businesses have invested more than US$189 million in 40 projects in Viet Nam. Italy rank 31st among 93 countries and territories investing in the country.
Two-way trade reached $797 million in the first half of this year, up 7.7 per cent compared to the same period last year. Viet Nam's export value to Italy accounted for 10 per cent of Viet Nam's total export earnings from the EU market, according to statistics from the Viet Nam General Department of Customs.
Viet Nam's major exports to the market are footwear, seafood, garments and textiles, coffee and wood and wooden products. Viet Nam's imports from Italy are mainly machinery, equipment and production materials.Source: vnagency.com.vn
